On the face of it, the iPhone is the perfect gadget for a business traveller, rolling a mobile phone, a music player and portable internet browser into a sleek handy package. But unless your company is paying the bill – and it’s a good chance they won’t given how much it costs – you probably won't be getting one any time soon.

In fact, with everyone bleating on about the iPhone, it’s easy to forget that there are other handsets both on the market and due to come out in the next few weeks that do the same as the iPhone and more besides. Despite its attractions, the iPhone also has some disadvantages - it's linked to a single network (unless you want to risk trying the various unlocking strategies out there) and doesn't like running third-party applications like Skype.

So if you are in the market for an iPhone alternative, try these for size.

LG KS20

This handset is already drawing oohs of appreciation on the Continent but is not yet available in the UK and no launch date has yet been set. LG has been making some very nice-looking phones, such as the Chocolate and the Prada, recently and the KS20 is no exception.

It’s the first LG phone to run on Windows Mobile (version 6) rather than the SavaJe.

Connecting to the internet is potentially faster than the iPhone with 3.6Mbps HSDPA support sitting alongside wi-fi.

The screen is big – 2.8 inches across – and with a 240x320 resolution but not quite up to the iPhone standard (3.5 inches at 480x320) for viewing the web or video clips.

Nokia N95 8GB

The newest version of the N95 has 8GB of flash memory, just like the iPhone. The N95 has a small footprint because of a clever sliding design. Slide the phone one way and you get a standard phone keyboard. Slide it the other way, and it reveals four control buttons for the multimedia player. The slider mechanism opens a tad too easily in my opinion.
