American Airlines serves the world’s best business class wines, according to the latest Cellar in the Sky awards.
American Airlines, Air France, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Qantas also won awards for individual wines.
Best white was Air France’s Gerard Bertrand Domaine de Cigalus 2005 from Languedoc-Roussillon. Best red was Air New Zealand’s Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir 2005, Wairarapa. Qantas and Singapore Airlines shared the honours for best sparkling wine, with both offering Charles Heidsieck, MEC 2003 non vintage to their business passengers. Best fortified wine was AA’s La Plaza Vieja by Spain’s Emilio Lustau.
The annual awards, run by Business Traveller magazine in conjunction with the International Wine Challenge, are now in their 20th year. A blind tasting of wines from 26 airlines took place in November.
