Win tickets to the ATP finals
What should you get for paying the premium to fly in first or business class?
You’d certainly expect a better seat, more legroom, a flashier in-flight entertainment system and tastier food and wine. Getting off the plane before people who paid less for their tickets is a given.
Or is it?
A story emerging from Guyana shows the class rage that ensues when this doesn’t happen. Fox News reports that Delta first class passenger Satyanand Christopher got so angry at seeing economy passengers getting off the plane before him that he pulled open an emergency door and used the slide.
He was arrested and may have to pay the significant costs of refitting the slide along with compensation for the delays he caused.
It reminds me of a story – possibly apocryphal - about the priority baggage system which supposedly guarantees the early arrival of first and business class passengers’ luggage on the carousel.
A business class passenger, annoyed at seeing the bags of economy class passengers arriving before his, complained to a baggage handler. ‘I thought you gave special treatment to business class luggage?’ said the passenger. ‘Yes we do,’ replied the handler with a glint in his eye before walking off.
