Watch Out

Well done Think for providing free wi-fi in the rooms. That's a big saving compared with many UK hotels who still insist on charging, sometimes a quite incredible amount of money. There's a big flatscreen digital TV in the room, and plenty of sockets around.

Fed and watered

There's a range of good restaurants to choose from in this neighbourhood, and if you fancy one of the chains head down to the riverside where most of them are represented. However the apartment complex is a couple of minutes from the funky Bermondsey neigbourhood with its quirky bars and restaurants. Stop for a mojito in the cool Village East on Bermondsey Street, then head across the road for dinner at the excellent Bermondsey Kitchen, where the emphasis is on ethical food sourcing. Mains such as slow cooked beef and ale stew with crushed new potatoes come in at around £13; a chicken liver parfait starter was £6.50 and puddings including a set yoghurt and lime pot with raspberry cream were around the £6 mark. Lovely service too. If you fancy pottering over the pots back in the homestead there's a Marks and Spencer food hall on Tooley Street, close to London Bridge station.

In the know

Italian chain restaurant Strada, next to City Hall, has one of the best views in London, across the river and Tower Bridge, and serves good value Italian food and a decent bottle of wine. Don't miss a walk or jog down the riverside along the nearby Thames Path.

Good value prices, and free wi-fi.

Lack of in-room information, no air con, and a reception desk that wasn't coping well with crowds.
