The Department for Transport (DfT) is introducing regulations that mean that carry-on luggage has to be of a maximum length of 56cm, 45cm width and 25cm depth. From tomorrow, there will also be no limit to the number or weight of bags you can take on-board. The new regulations brings the UK into line with international limits on cabin baggage.
The new regulations will particularly affect passengers who check in using the web or a self-service kiosk since if you go through to the gate with luggage larger than this, you will be asked to return to check-in.
The DfT says that the new restrictions are “designed to reduce security queuing times and improve safety on board aircraft”.
Last month, British Airways announced changes to its baggage policies which have caused uproar among passengers.
