THE AMAN HOTEL

This cool urban oasis, located among the leafy avenues of posh New Delhi, overlooks the Lodhi Gardens and Humayun’s Tomb (inspiration for the Taj Mahal). AURA

When you consider that most hotel bars don’t reach beyond the demands of the martini crowd, this vodka specialist is a true revelation. With more than 75 varieties on sale, it takes its drink very seriously, and has the mandatory stainless-steel bar and dim lighting to match. MANISH ARORA

The Indian fashion designer’s flagship store is the ultimate in overwhelming flamboyance; the Dolly Parton of clothes shops. Its couture-level craft recreates the intense detail of traditional Indian techniques, but the approach is very much psychedelic. The result is an explosion of riotous colour that will dazzle your senses.

FULL CIRCLE

Bookstores always offer a chance to see how the locals feed their minds, and at this hippy-tinged emporium, exploring your inner consciousness is a given. With its rooftop café and welcoming staff, visiting yogis will have a ball. 5B Khan Market (00 91 11 2465 5641; www.atfullcircle.com).

INDIA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE

Amid the Lodhi Gardens’ lush greenery sits the building that has been at the centre of liberal art and politics for 50 years. Architect Joseph Allen Stein’s masterpiece may be a bit past its best, but such shabbiness only adds to the charm and character of a building so integral to Delhi’s artistic energy.
