AMBIENCE Intimate: steps lead down from the railings at street level to a reception area and two treatment rooms and showers. Simple, uncluttered neutral colours warmed up with wood veneer. The two therapists wear chic cheongsam-style black trouser suits

EXPERIENCE Friendly and efficient. Tired, dry skin was left soft and sheer by the rigorous but relaxing 30-minute body polish with mineral salts, followed by a smothering of rich moisturisers. The 45-minute express manicure, eyelash tint and eyebrow wax was a perfect little pampering pick-me-up.

FOOD Definitely not for ladies who lunch — there isn’t any food.
