Why it’s special

One of three hotels in the small and friendly Sinnott chain. Decor and furniture are chosen by the owner’s wife and the hotel is comfortable and sophisticated.

Hitting the sack

The rooms are like wombs: plush red fabrics, brocaded curtains, pale wood furniture and even a mannequin to dress up in your clothes — or dance with.

Sampling the fare

Francesca’s Restaurant serves a good quality fusion of Irish, French and organic cuisine.

Added attractions

The Butterlane Bar, which serves snacks and is open 24/7 to guests, is a clubby room — while the drawing room, with its open fire, is a good place for a contemplative read.

Sex appeal

In the superior rooms the beds are huge.

The bottom line

Doubles/twins are £140; for an extra £16 you get a slightly larger room with video and sound system.
