These are the favourite comedy locations of England, as voted for by users of Enjoy England's website, the tourism organisation that has this week launched a website dedicated to comedy across the country. Take a look, and vote in our poll above to name your funny favourite.
1. I’m Alan Partridge: Norfolk, Surrey and Hertfordshire
Various scenes in I’m Alan Partridge starring Steve Coogan as the Norwich DJ and failed television star were filmed in and around Norwich and the East of England. Start by checking into his favourite hotel, the Linton Travel Tavern – actually filmed at the Hilton hotel in Watford, just off the M1.
Alan’s favourite hang-out is Choristers Country Club, so kick back and read a paper at Wildwood Golf & Country Club in Cranleigh, Surrey – just try not to put your foot on a spike... Or why not take a trip on the Norfolk Broads – the episode "Watership Alan" was filmed on the River Bure at Wroxham – "water-way to have a good time," as Partridge would say.
In Norwich itself, marvel at the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre and taste Colman’s mustard at the Colman’s Mustard Shop in the historic art nouveau Royal Arcade. Venture up to North Norfolk and you can visit Blickling Hall, or the home of U2's Bono in the series 2 episode "Alan Wide Shut".
2. Last of the Summer Wine: Yorkshire Dales
The hugely popular long-running English sitcom, Last of the Summer Wine – about the misadventures of three eccentric elderly friends in the Yorkshire Dales countryside – was filmed in and around the town of Holmfirth.
Fans of the show can book a coach tour of the key locations, as well as grab a bite to eat at "Sid’s Café".
The show starred Bill Owen as Compo, Peter Sallis as Clegg and recently deceased Brian Wilde as Foggy. Writer Roy Clarke created the characters for a one-off BBC Comedy Playhouse in 1973, but a full series had hit our screens before the year was out.
3. Fawlty Towers: Torquay and Buckinghamshire
The English Riviera town of Torquay was the setting for the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers, in which John Cleese played the unforgettable Basil Fawlty. The show ran for two series in 1975 and 1979 and was voted Britain’s fifth best sitcom in a 2004 BBC poll.
Cleese, who co-wrote the show with Connie Booth (Polly), took inspiration for the character from the manager of Torquay’s Gleneagles Hotel, where he stayed with the Monty Python team in 1970.
