Stavanger is a fantastic city in the nicest part of Norway. The 18th-century wooden houses of Old Stavanger is unique in europe. The medieval St. Svithun's cathedral in the city center is a mix of Anglo-Sanxon/Nomannic, Norse-Viking and gothic style. stavanger has lots of museums. The Norwegian Petroleum Museum is located at the harbour. The museum reflects the fact that Stavanger has been Norway's oil capital since oil drilling activities started in the North Sea in 1966.
Stavanger is European Capital of Culture 2008 together with Liverpool. The local fotball club Viking Fk, playes machets in the summer. They knocked out Chealse from the UEFA-cup in 2002.
Its also many splendid things to see in the nature. The fjord Lysefjorden and the Pulpit Rock. In the summer the sandy beaches, in the are is a must, including the beach at Sola.
