Spotted by Locals offers travel tips on 21 cities across Europe, from Amsterdam to Zagreb. The tips our provided by local or expat “Spotters” and include recommendations for restaurants, bars, shops and galleries in a collection of blog-style articles tagged by city and type.

The site was launched by Amsterdam couple, Sanne and Bart van Poll, and featured as one of our best travel guides on the web. They handpick and meet the Spotters in each cities, only after meeting each one.

The authors/spotters of the Zurich guide are Jessica Cartwright, Miltiadis Sarakinos, Roman Rey and Sabine Schweizer. Here are their tips in Switzerland's most exciting city.

2. Duda

A stylish bar, with the original architectural features.

Spotter quote: "So far, very few people know about the bar, as you have to walk through the museum shop - great for unusual gifts - to get to it, and because Duda is not allowed to advertise itself on the historical façade."

3. Merkur Confiserie

Fresh chocolate by the slab - even on Sundays!

Spotter quote: "The ladies at the Hauptbahnhof location are endlessly patient. They have no problem snapping off a tiny chunk here and a mammoth chunk there just so that you can get the right combination. Make sure you try all the flavors, too. I haven’t met a combo I didn’t like."

4. Sesam Falafelbar

Best falafel and kebabs in the city

Spotter quote: "You can get a falafel sandwich with everything and garlic sauce in a neat little package to eat right at the standing tables outside - feel free to say yes when they ask if you want “Scarf?” which means hot, or hot sauce. Or perhaps you want to go the traditional route and have a kebab? I recommend you have it with the traditional pita bread instead of the tortilla style bread, but there are no wrongs here people.

5. Stall 6 - Gessnerallee

All kinds of music are played and performed at this bar in the foyer of avant-garde theatre, Gessnerallee, a converted stable.
