Hi - we have had two excellent holidays with Acorn Adventure and would like to try something similar with another company. I have a typical 15 yr old daughter who loved the communal living aspect of Acorn - in fact I hardly saw her all holiday. Tried and tested family-active holiday companies like Mark Warner, Club Med and Sunsail all have so much going on for all age groups that your daughter is bound to have a ball - and so will you. These holidays are on the expensive side and so here are some other options which might appeal. The Big Lottery Fund has just granted £5,5 million to the YHA towards summer camps for 10-17 year olds. Just over 10,000 places will be discounted for disadvantaged children (anyone who qualifies for free school meals, for instance, pays on £25) but even the full price of £400 a week is nothing given what's on offer.

Like the 'Live like a star' package. Young people get to stay in a Gothic manor house and produce and star in their own pop DVD, learn about costume and design and take celebrity trip round Alton Towers. There are also lots of outdoor activities, too, from surfing to climbing PLUS the YHS is offering free family membership plus a goody bag for every camper.

Given the low cost you might even be able to afford a second modest holiday for all the family - and why not try the latest holiday craze: camping in yurts?
