It’s fast becoming the island of epics — both Gladiator and Troy were made there — and now there is an epic spa resort on the north-east coast, opposite the exquisite Venetian port of Valletta.

In this, flat, smooth volcanic stones are heated, placed on the body’s chakra points, mingled with oil and used to massage tired and taut muscles and joints.

A number of hydrotherapy, aromatherapy and Bach flower treatments are also available as are some special Tutti Frutti massages in which the ingredients include fruit and herbs.

Afterwards you will be ready to relax by the pool before heading off on a harbour cruise to see Valletta at its most magical.
