Single men looking for a date should head for China, according to On the Go, a China specialist tour operator.

In “Ten reasons to visit China” in its new brochure, No 3 is that “China has 500 million females, so you lonely men need to pack your bags and tour today!” But if that is not enough encouragement for wannabe Lotharios, the “No 6” reason says: “Be smug with your friends, especially when a group of cute Asian girls runs over and wants their picture taken with you. Being a minority has its advantages.”

Other “top reasons” to visit — with no mention of the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, the Imperial Palace in Beijing, or the futuristic excess of Shanghai — are, to “eat Peking duck” and shop in Beijing, buy beers, and to know how to say “booyao” — which “tells the street merchants to get lost”.

A spokeswoman for On the Go said: “We wanted to have a bit of fun. And maybe there are guys out there who will think ‘Wow! 500 million women? And here I am not able to get a date in London’.”
