Flybe will withdraw all flights from Bristol airport with the exception of one route.
The regional airline was due to take over the fifth largest airline presence at Bristol airport following its takeover of BA Connect, but has decided not to continue any of the BA Connect’s flights.
The eight BA Connect flights that will be axed at Bristol are Paris, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Zurich, Milan and Munich. Of these routes three – to Paris, Edinburgh and Glasgow faced direct competition from easyJet.
The single Flybe route that will continue to operate is to Jersey.
The takeover of BA Connect has resulted in 15 further service cancellations and the launch of 31 new routes by Flybe, as well as extensive flight disruptions while the acquisition is completed.
A spokesman for Bristol airport says the BA Connect routes represent only three per cent of flights out of the airport, and says some of the routes, such as Edinburgh and Glasgow, are operated by other carriers. On those routes not served by other airlines, the airport says it is “currently in discussions with a number of major airlines to replace the cancelled services as soon as possible”.
The most prolific carrier based out of Bristol is easyJet, which operates flights to 26 destinations. Other carriers that will continue to operate flights from Bristol include Ryanair, Air Southwest, KLM, Brussels Airlines and GB Airways
The cancellation of the routes by Flybe will leave up to 193 staff at Bristol airport with an uncertain future, but the carrier says it hopes to keep job losses to a minimum.

I had a confirmed BA flight from Bristol Airport due to fly on 4 August 2007 to Munich airport. I chose Bristol as I live in Exeter. Devon.
I received an email from BA this week to tell me that my flight had been cancelled.
After a desperate hour on my computer, I have managed to secure flights with Easy Jet but now have to travel to Stansted, 217 miles from my home instead of the 66 miles - I am very cross!!
