Ginny McGrath and Steve Keenan
Win Sky+HD for a year and a trip to Barcelona

First things first. This is not a definitive list so sorry if your favourite site is not included. It is not comprehensive, very subjective and not an all-encompassing-list-of-every-travel-website-that-ever-was.
But it isn't a half-bad list for all that, a recognition of sites that have shown real innovation during 2007 and which have launched or improved their offerings to become truly worthy of being added to a favourites list.
Most have cropped in our regular Website of the Week features, and we link through to those reviews which have appeared on the site during 2007. The 50 are not necessarily ranked in any order.
But we still invite your comments and recommendations because there will inevitably be some that even we are not aware of. Shame on us.
And if you want a guide to more websites that can be more prosaic but none the less incredibly helpful, then read the Times Online top 100 travel websites.
Between these, we hope we've got it covered....

A great site for booking your travel insurance is http://www.travelinsuranceguide.org.uk. They have great deals on all types of travel insurance and I managed to save £65 on my family's insurance last month by using it.

The Real Visitors Book should be there surely! Only website dedicated exclusively to UK self-catering recommendations written by the real experts - previous guests!

Vanessa Curney, London, UK
Another great website is www.audioguide2go.com
which is a portal to audio walks and guides on the web.
Instead of spending ages on a search engine tours can be selected by destination or type. Many are free and some incur a small charge..
There are hundreds of audio trails, tours and guides ranging from top tourist cities to off the beaten track and the weird and wacky.
Users are also invited to leave reviews for others.

I found it very useful we should also consider www.svntour.com for year 2008 for travel To Turkey...
Great assistance, reliable service with best prices

Great list but I consider www.trip-extras.com to be "one to watch" for 2008!
John Alas, croydon, UK
I love tablethotels.com - you missed that one.
James Dodd, NYC,
See www.treatyourself.uk.com for great places to stay and to visit in Kerala and Goa.
A fun site which makes a change from all the clinical sales stuff out there.
Joanne Hurst, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Another one to watch in 2008 is http://www.rummble.com which makes it easy to find stuff nearby which you will like, from your mobile phone. It also allows you not only to share your favourite places around the world on social networks (Facebook, Bebo, MySpace etc) but also tell your friends where you're going to be, and meet up with them.
Andrew, London,
You missed a great site that saves clients more money than most every site you have listed. http://www.cheapertravel.com located in the US sells their inventory throughout the world. They provide a high level of service while discounting from retail prices most every tour or cruise. You should have a category of Money Saving travel agencies.
Craig Pavlus, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Matador Travel all the way! - www.matadortravel.com
Lola, Washington, DC,
Why isn't www.chicretreats.com in the list - it was listed in the top 100 and should certainly have been in this list - it has the best selection of small, chic & boutique hotels -
honor diacciati, ipswich,
a site that I think should be listed also is www.nozio.com a upcoming travel guide portal with direct links to the hotel offical web sites, cutting out the middleman is the future.
chris f., London, uk
check out www.TonsofHotels.com. I stumbled upon their Specials page and it lists hotel deals around the world. It saved me alot of time when searching.
Eileen, Pearl River, NY, US, NY
Wow - how could you have missed TabletHotels.com?
This site runs circles around some of the others you listed - it's what I rely upon for finding the right hotel...anywhere.
Michael, Locust Valley, USA
Some good picks here, but none of these sites speak to traveling with a purpose like MatadorTravel.com. I found this site a couple of weeks ago and have been on it every day since. It's a travel community for people passionate about exploring the world and contributing to the greater good. The quality of travel writing in their online magazine is the best I've seen on online and they have friendly travelers from all over the world to connect with. They have a great section called the Bounty Board that offers assignments to aspiring travel writers. Anyway, I could go on and on. Just check it out for yourself. It should be in your top 50 for sure. www.MatadorTravel.com

This will be one to keep close at hand for ready reference when planning and booking travel. In addition to all these great sites, you and the readers may also want to check out www.groople.co m, a collaborative planning and booking sites for families, friends and colleagues travelling together. The site has a unique search feature that only show hotels that are appropirate for the event, occasion or type of trip. It is easy to compare and book all from the same page. The GroopVine is the collaborative part of the site to keep all the travel details, poll fellow travelers, message, upload photos and videos, add feeds and all be on the same page.

If you are a Jamaica nut like me, and are in to renting a luxury villa with your own Butler, Cook, Housekeeper and Laundress, you should take a look at one of my favorite websites, www.mockingbirdhillvilla.com
Given the massive devaluation of the US dollar, this is the place where you'll get huge value for your money.
Nigel, San Diego, California
I've been usig www.cheapflights.co.uk for 5-6 years now.. It's one of the quickest travel site and it's really straightforward to use. I use it to book fligths for my boss all the time - It's basic but it does the job.
ruth arnold, lewisham,
It's new and only about Mallorca, Spain, but I came across www.allaboutmallorca.com and loved it. First, it's well written, even funny. Second it's non-commercial in that all the information about the island is unloaded and nobody can pay to be included. Third, it's opinionated about things the author of the site, George Scott, owner of two boutique hotels out there, knows about, and can give you straight information about. Fifty best? Well, probably not because the subject is limited, but for anyone who wants what George calls the "unvarnished skinny" about the island and how to build a holiday there, then this one is the one you want. All the others I visited were selling a single product, or were just not looking at their information from the point of view of a potential visitor. It also does a great job of presenting the island, so anyone who is interested in Spain should take a look. Really recommended.
Serena van der Post, Tavistock, Devon UK
Another one to add to the list is footballhotels.co.uk if you're a footie fan. It lets you find hotels near every British ground and even donates money to your club from its profits.
Mike Keating, Peterborough, UK
I know I'm biased but my website has destination guides to less well known destinations in Europe so you can have a more authentic experience, avoid the tourist crowds and get better value for money.
www.europealacarte.co.uk
Karen Bryan, Berwick upon Tweed, UK
.....on our search however the one which we decided to proceed with was Cheapflights.
Main reason as to why we choose this website is because it is easy to use, has plenty of useful information, and last but not least, offered the best deal. I particularly liked the travel tips page they have as they have tips ranging from travelling with children (not for me at this point thankfullyâ¦lol) to mobile phone charges (tips which were particularly useful for my friend as he was warned that if he didnât contact the missus he would be in big trouble), to the section which I liked bestâ¦â¦..the telephone cheat sheet. Ever wondered how you can get an actual person on the phone instead of a machine whilst contacting British Airways? Check out the website and you will know.
On that note I am going to end this message with a note:
Donât stereotype students, as annoying as we are, we are the future, and secondly take a quick visit to Cheapflights.co.uk and see what you think. It did the job for me.
