Charter flights to Kenya have restarted after the Foreign Office tweaked its advice against nonessential travel to exclude Mombasa Town.
The charter carrier African Safari Airways (0845 345 0014, www.africansafariclub.com) resumed charter flights to Mombasa yesterday, with return fares from Gatwick starting at £499. Flights depart every Saturday until April 26.
Meanwhile, scheduled fares to Kenya have fallen, with Virgin Atlantic (0870 380 2007, www.virgin-atlantic.com) offering return flights over the Easter holiday from £391.
Tour operators, too, are offering discounts in an attempt to entice travellers. Somak (020 8423 3000, www.somak.com) has cut 20 per cent off the price of an all-inclusive 14-night stay at the Southern Palms resort on Diani Beach - down to £1,079, from £1,356pp - but a better deal is a half-price week at the four-star Flamboyant Hotel, available for just £869pp with Africa Sky (0870 904 0925, www.africasky.co.uk).

I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Kenya.
The message from the people there, working in the travel/tourist industry is "Please come to Kenya!"
They are extremely worried about their jobs and families because of the unprecedented fall in bookings since the end of December.
We were welcomed with open arms and I can honestly say that, if it had not been for the media reports before we left UK, we would not have known there was any trouble at all.
Of course, be sensible which areas you go to but DO GO!!!
