Alton Towers is putting on a free Christmas event for families who were disappointed by their visit Lapland New Forest.

The Staffordshire resort says it will admit up to 1,500 people to its festive event on Saturday December 13. Only families who can provide proof of their visit to Lapland New Forest will be admitted, and they must book tickets in advance.

More than 2,000 people who have so far visited the Lapland New Forest attraction have complained, claiming it is over-priced and doesn't live up to the hype.

Although the theme park at Alton Towers is closed throughout the winter, the hotel, Alton Towers Resort, remains open and will host the event for disgruntled families.

Visitors to the resort on December 13 will be able to see reindeer and visit Santa's grotto and children will receive a gift and be able to go on fairground rides including dodgems. They will also have access to the waterpark and golf course.

Sales and marketing director for Alton Towers Resort, Morwenna Angove, said: “This extra day of celebration will only be available to those left disappointed at Lapland, and whilst spaces will need to be limited, this is purely to ensure all families experience a fantastic day out at our Resort ”.

Families hoping to claim the free tickets are being told to email guest.services@alton-towers.com or call 0871 222 9901. The resort is holding Christmas celebrations offering similar attractions, for paying customers, on December 7, 14, 20, 21, 22 and 23.
