Q I am planning to visit a friend in Singapore during the first two weeks of April next year and want to add on an escorted tour for about five days in Thailand that will begin and end in Bangkok. I have looked on the internet and have been overwhelmed by the choice on offer. Is being a single traveller a problem? My budget is flexible and I am looking for a reasonably comfortable experience.

A You should have no problem as a single traveller in Thailand. One tour option is to head north to Chiang Mai, where you could visit an elephant camp and perhaps take an elephant ride, as well as visit the handicraft villages at San Kampaeng. Tropical Locations (0845 2773310, www.tropicallocations.co.uk) runs a small escorted tour every Wednesday, which starts in Bangkok, and includes stops at Bang Pa In, the former summer residence of the kings of Ayutthaya, built in the 18th century, and Sukhothai, the first capital of the Thai kingdom.

Prices start at £495 per person and include half board in comfortable local hotels, entrance fees, tours with a local English-speaking guide and the flight back from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.
