Photographer Harry Cory Wright followed in the footsteps of great landscape photographers such as Fox Talbot, Fenton and Bourne with a six month journey through through Britain with a large-format plate camera, creating a unique photographic record of some of the most spectacular locations in the country.
During his travels Cory Wright wrote a blog for Times Online. Read Q&As with the author and the online diary in full.
The journey began in the fragile, freezing beauty of the north of the Shetland Islands at the spring equinox, and saw him travel throughout Scotland, England and Wales before pressing the shutter for the final time on the Isle of Skye several months later.
Cory Wright explains that photographing the countryside involves reaching in "as deep as you can into the world in front of you" and completely immersing yourself in your surroundings.
He was joined by his wife and three children on much of the journey. They would camp for several days at a time while he familiarised himself with the landscape and the light, before choosing the perfect vantage point from which to photograph the natural world around him. The results are stunning. Each photograph is infused with the spirit of its location, thanks to Cory Wright's remarkable eye and the amazing ability of his Gandolfi 10 x 8 inch wooden plate camera to capture every tiny detail.
"I love being in the landscape more than I can put into words," says Cory Wright, who did a fine job of expressing his love for our countryside though pictures. Harry runs the Saltwater Gallery in Burnham Market, Norfolk and will be exhibiting photographs of his journey in galleries throughout the country in the autumn.
The book's foreword is written by Adam Nicolson, a well-known travel writer and historian whose books include Seamanship (2004) and Men of Honour (2005).

'Pristine and splenderous natural marvels' tend not to be set amidst the 'bucolic majesty' of England. Sutherland is in Scotland.
Susannah, Edinburgh,
The grandeur and bucolic majesty of England's breathtaking landscapes must be safeguarded from marauders and developers. These pristine and splenderous natural marvels are priceless. They contain ecosytems and species biodiversity that must remain intact.
