Modern Italian opulence in a traditional Victorian building in Kensington. The foyer is black, with striking Murano glass chandeliers, touches of silver and gold, a modern water feature and a screen with black and white photos of film stars.

Why it’s special

Futuristic and funky. Open for only five months but already a big hit with a hip crowd.

Hitting the sack

Sixty-six rooms, of which 50 are suites. They are quiet for London and are decorated in muted shades, with modern furniture and have a distinctly masculine air. Italian bed linen, mood lighting and marble bathrooms with silver-plated basins. The presidential suite even has bulletproof windows; room 405 has views of Kensington Gardens and a living-flame fire.

Sampling the fare

Modern menu with an Italian twist in the buzzy Brunello restaurant: ricotta dumpling with pesto, rib-eye steak with grilled vegetables, banana terrine with chocolate sauce. Two courses £18, three courses £26.

Access all areas

Ramp into reception, lift to disabled washrooms and the spa on lower ground, and most bedrooms and bathrooms are accessible for wheelchairs.

Added attractions

Health spa, free in-room movies, personal butler on every floor. High St Kensington and the Royal Albert Hall are within easy walking distance.
