Has anyone else caught on to Ryanair’s latest money-making wheeze? Go to book on its website and you’re asked how many bags you will be checking in. Wanting to travel light – and avoid the airline’s charges for checking in your bags – I went to click “none” . . . only to find that there wasn’t a zero option. The nearest equivalent is a window reading “0 bags, online check-in/priority boarding” – for which there is a £4 charge. The cheek of it! Ryanair’s boss, Michael O’Leary, is always saying he wants passengers to travel light; now he’s trying to charge us for that, too.
If you click on the “online check-in” window, a small message does finally appear, allowing you a no-charge, no-bags boarding option – but why is it disguised like this? I actually admire Ryanair’s efficiency, but it’s these constant sneaky ruses to separate us from our cash that make the airline so hard to like. Chris Cooper, London

we recently also had the misfortune of booking flighs with Ryanair, and were also charged £8.00 for NOT taking a bag!
We were over weight at check in, resulting in £86 costs,so we bought a holdall from a service desk costing £12 plus £12 to check it in, still a rip off, but nevertheless cheaper,

Disguised and well hidden but I know what to look for if there is a next time. I recently booked flights to Rome for a weekend where we only wanted to take one bag between us and paid the £4 fee for online check-in/priority boarding. However, the confirmation that was emailed to me told me that I could not use the online check-in/priority boarding as I was travelling with someone with checked bags. I felt cheated of my £4.
