Sunday Times travel expert, Richard Green, responds: Finding which airlines fly from one place to another is difficult enough, but tracking down local coach operators is downright bewildering. A good starting point is the British Guild of Coach Operators, which lists all the local companies by area or town, or for a search for a particular holiday, there’s CoachTrips.com (020 8450 5354).

However, a snazzy new website has just launched called Door2Tour.com, which might just become as useful for coaching holidays as Travel Supermarket or Travel Jungle are for air travel. It works as a consolidator for coaching companies, and the technology behind it means that what you see is what you can get, with displays of live availability. You can then book online after a redirection to the site of the firm actually operating the tour.

There are thousands of tours and hundreds of pick up points across the UK, and you can search for a tour by destination, tour type, departure date, or even by pinpointing a destination on Google Earth if that’s your thing.
