I am hoping to go to Canada in October and want to buy a Greyhound bus pass that gives me unlimited travel for about 14 days. Is there anywhere in the UK that sells these and how much do they cost? TM Box, Southfields, London

Sunday Times travel expert, Richard Green, responds: STA Travel (0871 230 8512) is the UK sales agent for Greyhound Canada. A 15-day Discovery Pass costs £238pp (there’s also 7-days for £162, 30-days for £300 and 60-days for £370).

You can discover detailed information about the pass, and coach services in Canada at www.discoverypass.com. The pass gives you unlimited travel across the Greyhound Canada network, and is good for use on many affiliated companies too, like Orleans Express in Quebec and Acadian Lines in the Atlantic Provinces, and also for a one-way journey by train from Toronto to Ottawa or Montreal.

While the bus network operates the most frequent and extensive services, you might want to consider a train pass instead, especially if you are travelling long distances between the main cities, and don’t intend to visit the Atlantic Provinces, where there is no track.

Via Rail’s Canrail Pass is good for 12 days of unlimited travel within a period of 30 days. It costs £245 off peak (January-May and October 16th- December) and £393 in the peak period (June-October 15th). If you are aged over 60 or a student there’s a £23 discount on either.
