My son was recently diagnosed with cancer, and consequently we were forced to cancel two holidays for Whitsun and August. The first, with Eurocamp, was cancelled without any difficulty. We received a 50% refund and were given a letter to claim the balance under our annual travel insurance. The second involved EasyJet flights. It will not issue a letter confirming cancellation, which would enable me to make an insurance claim, until after the flights have departed, despite the fact that this will be after my annual policy expires. EasyJet seems unable to display any initiative in responding to our predicament. Andy Mills, Birmingham
EasyJet replies: “EasyJet is a nonrefundable airline and we do not cancel bookings; we encourage passengers to change flights instead of losing them. If passengers request an insurance form, we usually issue it once the flights have departed, in case they change their minds and use them after all. Given the circumstances, however, on this occasion we have now made an exception, cancelled the flights and issued the insurance letter.”

In Madagascar, we bought return tickets with Air France to Paris.
We told them we were travelling on to the UK with another carrier.
They advised us that, as we were not leaving the airport, we did not need a visa (my wife is Malagasy).
When we arrived in France, we were told that my wife did need a visa to walk between terminal two and terminal three.
Because of this, we ended up being separated for twelve hours, then Air Frace told me that she must buy another ticket with them for £500 to fly form Paris to Bristol because she couldnât travel between the terminals.
To tra vel from Paris to Bristol, we had tickets with EasyJet. When we arrived in Paris, my wife was barred from walking between the terminals because she did not have a visa (see above). However, after negotiation, the immigration supervisor agreed that she could be escorted from one terminal to the next to catch her flight. However, the Easy Jet supervisor would not accept this, so my wife was forced to buy the £500 Air France ticket. In addition, because they would not agree to her being escorted between the terminals, she was not present for check in and I therefore had to pay an excess luggage charge of £88 for my wifeâs luggage.
During our time here, my wife has been told that she needs to have a serious operation. This will mean that we cannot return to Madagascar within the time limit for our three month ticket. Air france has informed us that we will therefore need to buy completely new tickets at a total cost for us both of £1300. I work in Madagascar for a charity which is involved in funding schools and healthcare in Madagascar and can ill afford to pay twice for travel.
