Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green responds: Renting an apartment in Paris is an excellent way to se the city and live more like a local. It's the perfect option for total privacy and flexibility, and if you have kids. There are some great places to choose from too; either with crisp modern décor, or elegant and antique-filled, but many have a week set as the minimum rental period, especially in the high season. However, they will often do a long weekend if you ask.

Appartement de Ville (00 33 1 42 450908) has an excellent selection of apartments, and with a year-round minimum stay of four nights. Expect to pay from £281 for a property that sleeps 2-3 people for four nights, or from £422 for a week.
