1. When priority boarding is just a scrum - Polly Styche paid extra to board first but what ensued was an undignified scrum, a similar situation faced by The Sunday Times' Matt Rudd. The good news? It's not gone unnoticed - Ginny McGrath reported on complaints by Trading Standards, and Andy Pycock took easyJet to court and won.
2. Avoiding extra baggage charges - it cost Liz Lodwig nearly £100 to transport golf club bags with Flybe, meanwhile Chris Cooper and Chrissy Emms are readers who've noted a fiddly procedure to avoid baggage charges on the Ryanair website. 3. Changing passenger details - Neil Hunter had already paid £1,000 in fares, but easyJet added another £321 to change a passenger name, meanwhile, the Wilshers had to pay extra to easyJet when their daughter and her boyfriend split, leaving them with a spare ticket.
4. The fare that shoots up before you book - Kate Irvine's flight rocketed nearly £100 before she could complete her easyJet purchase online, which prompted Kevin Price to tell us about his experience of an easyJet price hike
5. Paying for flights with vouchers - the Allens won a Ryanair flight in a draw, while Mike Thompson was given a £100 easyJet voucher for his birthday - both found them either costly or difficult to use. Our advice is, do some research online before you book, and book a long well in advance if you can.
6. Getting a refund of taxes and charges - Abbott Katz was told by Ryanair that the admin costs of processing his refund exceeded the potential rebate. The same problem afflicted Colin and Sheila Harris when Flybe charged them £100 for processing their flight tax refund.
7. Airlines that cancel or switch flights - Marion Grant's Bmi flights to Amalfi were cancelled and easyJet from Stansted was not an appealing option, meanwhile, when easyJet took over GB Airways, Karen Bonnamy's flights moved to an antisocial take-off slot, while poor David Thorpe bought tickets to Deauville, then Ryanair scrapped the route.
8. Low cost carriers outside Europe - is there an "easyJet" of Africa, asks Chris Littlewood, who wants to get from Namibia to South Africa, meanwhile George Dunn wants to know if, now that low cost carriers have reached Istanbul and Marrakech, will they soon fly to the Middle East?
9. Cancelling a flight in unexpected circumstances - Ray Phipps wants to know if his Ryanair ticket will be refunded following a family bereavement, and Andy Mills had to cancel two holidays, one with easyJet flights, when his son was diagnosed with cancer.

May I remind your editorial staff, once again, that Sefton has NOT been in Lancashire for over 30 years. It is in Merseyside. Anyone looking for this walk, or indeed The Royal Birkdale Golf Club, or Southport, in a modern car atlas, would be disapointed.

I fly frequently with Easyjet and rarely have problems. Priority boarding is a joke though. At Bristol airport it usually means youre the first on and last off the bus to the plane. Anyway what difference does it make where you sit on a flight under 2 hours and have only paid £50 for a ticket?

I have flown ryanair at least six times a year since the airline started. They are just fine, I have only been delayed once (two hours). Their customer services are fine as well, very helpful and give more than you could expect. Don't blame airline for bad passengers who push, shove and get drunk

Two years ago I was at Luton airport when I received a call to say that my father had passed away. I just had time to advise Easyjet that my husband and I would not be flying before I left the airport to rush home. Easyjet were fantastic and refunded me in full for both tickets.

Ryanair tried to charge me £162 for excess wieght. My girlfriend and I had used 1 bag. Even though we didnt exceed to combined weight allowance. Luckily i had time to get another bag from home and come back (live near airport). low fairs but unfair. dont get caught by this!!!

I agree with the comments that the admin charges for processing a refund should be considered a penalty rather than liquidatory damanges or 'fair compensation'.. I expect this could be similar to the bank overdraft fees overcharging scandal.

The budget airlines make it clear you would need to pay for excess luggage or to change a name (if you read the small print). There is a reason the price is small, why expect a luxury service for a budget price?

In March 2008 I bought 2 annual 'Easy Jet Plus' passes £55 each for 2 of us. It's excellent but one cannot sit back and expect it to work. Make sure ALL check in staff know you have card -boarding card must have SB(special boarding) marked on it. if on a COACH tell driver- he lets you off 1ST!

In relation to the extra - cancellation charges - could they not be classiffied as 'penalties' which are invalid under English (and Scots) law as payments which would aim to punish rather than to compensate the airline companies?

"Flybe charged them £100 for processing their flight tax refund." This is, of course, nonsense. Flight costs are calculated to the systemised passenger who books, pays and flies, and if you do anything different it is in their interests to punish you in order to dissuade the non-standard flier.

Priority boarding works perfectly at Amsterdam where a seperate taped off area is provided for Priority, A and B priority boarders (and they enforce it) - it's just that the handling agents used by Easyjet at UK airports are simply to damned idle to do anything about it.

Low cost airlines employ a largely automated system that is designed to run smoothly without much human involvement in the booking process. If you need to make changes you upset the system, costs are then occurred. If you don't like it, don't use it, but don't demonise Easyjet, Ryanair etc

There should a maximum charge on any name change.
The cost of updating your booking could be as low as 10 pounds , they will still make good profit for a few seconds work.
Most budget airlines are ticketless so no real hassle with changes unless its too near the flight date!

Not much comfort if you need to change a passenger name, but the reason why budget airlines are inflexible is to prevent low price tickets being bought by intermediaries and then sold later when the airline has invariably raised their prices closer to departure time.
