FAMILY TRAVEL: KIDS ON TOUR
Readers debate the issue of whether children spoil the tranquility of resorts for other holidaymakers. Will the arrival of family friendly resorts in the Maldives has ruined it for couples and honeymooners?
Read and comment on the original article: The Maldives: now for children too
Oh great, yet another holiday destination ruined by the current craze for being 'family friendly'. Why can't families with young children stick to Butlins or Disney World? FJ, Sandown
I can see why the prices are stupidly high - the holiday companies will need to make up the money they're going to lose from adults who are fed up with "family friendly" everything and now won't bother with the Maldives. Even the flights will be filled with noisy kids. Thanks for warning us! Sara, London
Why does it need to be ruined if their are families within a resort in Maldives? You can just move on further down the beach, problem solved! Are people so selfish that children cannot go on holidays without some singleton or couple slating them for doing so? Just do your research before booking. KPC, Richmond
The Maldives are beautiful, yet more and more islands are being trashed and turned into synthetic luxury spa resorts, mini theme parks, etc. I'm sure there is a huge market for people who prefer unspoilt natural destinations - I know I do. Chris, Cheltenham
TRAVEL NEWS: IS THERE SUCH THING AS A FREE FLIGHT?
Richard Green’s feature about getting the most from frequent flyer programmes and reward schemes got you hot under the collar about the elusive “free flight”
Read and comment on the original article: How to fly for free (plus charges)
I booked a BA Airmiles flight to Mexico yesterday and paid for another one. The paid for flight was £580 and the "free flight" was £280, thanks to the £200 fuel surcharge that BA charge on top of taxes. What a rip off. Emma, Cheltenham
A tip on the expiry issue, many of the airlines allow points to be added and thus extend the life of your existing points by using car hire firms. Often a small cheap weekend car hire not only saves mileage on your own car if it’s a long journey, but also adds 200 miles to your air miles account. Jim, Towster
Not sure this is correct…"now, a free flight really is free, with the airline taxes and fees included; and the points no longer have an expiry date." I just checked Nectar and their flight booking is through e-bookers and you still have to pay the exorbitant taxes. Gary, Benfleet
You also have to be wary of the cunning little muggers changing the expiry date of your miles and then deleting them all. I lost 100,000 when one airline changed the expiry date from 3 years to 18 months. Hazza, Newbury
Yes you can loose the lot, I lost over 80,000 points when Ansett Australia fell apart, It took me 4 return trips to Australia over several years to earn those points and I was going to use them for another family visit. Should have had those trips to Paris instead. Steve, London

Chris from Cheltenham - a huge market for natural, unspoilt destinations? A slight contradiction in terms, no?
Dave, Peebles, Scotland
We have just returned from the south of France, free return flights to Nice and almost-free car-hire (we had to pay just under one euro). The air-miles had built up over years and we were (kindly) informed that they were about to expire. No extras: just paid for hotel and meals. Great !
