Arrived in Cancun on Tuesday, October 18 from Manchester Airport for two-week holiday for two people.

Wednesday, October 19

10.00 Welcome meeting - introduction and highlights outlined. Informed that Hurricane Wilma was heading for the Yucatan Peninsula. Guests reassured that everything would be okay.

16.30 Booked $660 worth of excursions paid in cash.

20.00 Informed that all hotel guests were to be evacuated by Thomson reps.

Thursday, October 20

09.30 Found from other holidaymakers that evacuation was no longer taking place, and that all guests were to barricade themselves in their rooms.

10.00 Went to reception to obtain further information from Thomson, but no reps were present. Thomson left notices on the reception desk informing guests that the steps would be taken to ensure our safety, accompanied by photographs of mattresses in front of patio style windows with room furniture stacked behind it. Everyone was in a state of panic.

14.30 Told by a Thomson rep that everything was in hand, and that the hotel would ensure that everyone was safe.

15.00 All guests from ground floor and sea front rooms were moved, with some guests now sharing rooms.

18.00 The hotel director announced that all guests were to be in their rooms by no later than 21.00, and that no one was to emerge until hearing three whistles.

19.30 All guests had evening meal in the restaurant.
