My husband and I run a B&B and therefore can't get away until the beginning of November. We would like a holiday with guaranteed sunshine, a beach, and a bit of luxury. To avoid a long flight and to keep costs down, we prefer not to go for the Caribbean, and would rather pass on the Canaries. We like the idea of Cyprus, or the Greek Islands, but fear it won’t be warm enough. We don't mind donning a jacket in the evenings, but still want to have our evening meal outside. So, how about the Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa (www.vilavitaparc.com) in the central Algarve? It occupies 22 acres of beautiful cliff top gardens, and is a classy resort with good restaurants and pools, packed with facilities. It has a safe sandy beach and excellent service. Prices for a week are from £567pp.

You won’t need your jackets for dinner in the Red Sea Riviera, and the daytime average is 27 degrees. I’ve included it just in case you don’t mind a few stretch marks on your budget, or the thought of pushing a short haul flight to its limits. Actually it’s five hours flying time and £726pp, but well worth it. The Hyatt Regency in Sharm el Sheikh (http://sharmelsheikh.regency.hyatt.com) is a very luxurious hotel, with villa style rooms, lots of cascading water though its lush gardens, and an inviting sandy beach.

And then there’s Cyprus, and the Columbia Beach Resort (www.columbia-hotels.com). This stunning all suite hotel is in the village of Pissouri, about half way between Limassol and Paphos. There’s an 80 metres long palm-fringed infinity pool, an idyllic Blue Flag shingle beach, ample sports facilities, and a great restaurant. A week costs from £696pp. Or, there's its neighbour and sister hotel, the Columbia Beachotel, which has been recently refurbished and punches well above its three stars, from £514pp.
