Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green responds: At the low tech end of the spectrum is the Emergency Phone Charger for £7.99, which charges a mobile phone for about another 80 minutes from 4 standard AAA batteries.

It’s small, lightweight, and comes with four batteries, from Design Go. Or there’s the Juice Bar, which is a small flat pack store of charge which plugs into your phone and can give you up to an hours talk time, for just £3.99.

If you do remember your adaptor, there is a nifty double charger that can revive two mobiles or electrical devices from the one socket, for £19.99, also from Design Go.

Good for long-lifing your digital camera is the Uniross Globe Trotter charger, which comes with various plug adaptors and can charge 1-4 AA or AAA batteries. It costs £16.99 from Battery Logic. Or see Picstop, which has a huge range of rechargeable battery chargers.

And just because it’s so damned clever – take a look at the Freeplay Eco-Charge Companion Radio. It’s a small radio that costs £19.99 from Nomad Travel, which has a crank driven charger – about 20 seconds for about 20 minutes play – or it’ll play solar powered continuously in direct sunlight.
