Rock'n'roll star
“A few months ago, during the festival season, I saw two very famous pop stars getting completely hammered at the bar. He’s married with kids, and she’s in and out of relationships. They got more and more drunk, then all of a sudden they started snogging. I was really shocked, but didn’t say anything because it wasn’t really my place.
They then went back down to their seats, or beds, where everyone else was asleep, as it was the middle of the night. He sat down in the main seat, and she sat on the ottoman in front of him — or, rather, she bent down towards him. There was a duvet involved, but let’s just say that you could guess what she was doing. I’m not buying one of her records again.”
Meat or fish, madam?
“I was working on an American airline and a middle-aged businesswoman had a huge fit when the salmon dish ran out. She said she was a vegan and burst into tears and started banging the table. I calmed her down, but, after searching the whole plane, all that was left was chicken. She said she’d eat what she could, but then cleaned her plate, and even told me how good it was afterwards.”
Now, where did I put her?
“We were coming in to land, and a mum in business went to the loo and left her six-month-old child on the flat bed. A cabin-crew member came along, turned it into a chair again, tidied everything up and carried on with her duties. When the mum returned, she started screaming, “Oh, my God, who’s taken my child?”, as the baby had disappeared. None of the cabin crew had taken her or seen her, and everyone was getting pretty stressed.
Then somebody heard a faint crying coming from the chair, so we all rushed to turn the chair back into a bed, and there was the baby, with the seat belt wrapped around her. Because she was strapped in, she didn’t get hurt — the duvet fits in there, so there’s a fair bit of room — but the mother had become pretty hysterical, and was just so relieved that she was fine. As were we.”
Ouch, that's hot
“When you’re preparing the meals, you’re given T-Sticks, which are used to check the temperature of the drinks or the food — they change colour if it’s hot enough. But we just stick our fingers in. Much quicker. So if you hear a yelp from the galley, it usually means the meals are ready to go.”
