Doc Holiday responds: Yes, it's easy to do and gives you the chance to visit several islands in this diverse archipelago on the one holiday. One option is to buy a cheap package holiday to one of the main islands and then ditch your hotel for a few days and use local transport to explore some other islands. Or if you are travelling independently, you can buy an open jaw ticket, which means that you fly into one island and then back from another. You can then visit islands that are in between. For example, British Airways flies from London to Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife North, and Tenerife South. There is no worry if you haven't got an open jaw ticket either, as there are plenty of inter island ferry routes, and getting back to where you started from won't be a problem.

Fred Olsen Line (00 34 922 628 200, www.fredolsen.es) has a good network of routes in the Islands, and operates regular crossings from Tenerife to La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, and Gran Canaria - also from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote. A return from Tenerife to Gran Canaria starts at £40, or a single between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura is just £10.
